In recent years, Uganda and the African continent at large have witnessed stronger ties and partnerships with China in the areas of trade, education, ICT, mining and construction, among others. It can be clearly attested that in Uganda, the huge construction projects are predominantly being implemented by Chinese companies. Such projects include roads, dams, railways, an oil refinery and building of factories. In this respect, China has become one of the major trading partners of Uganda and ranks number one as far as Ugandan imports are concerned. There is also an ever increasing number of Ugandans going for business and studies in China and there are many Chinese conducting major businesses in Uganda. Indeed, there is great demand for people with knowledge of the Chinese language and culture in different operational areas of expertise like communication, translation, business, Journalism, Tourism sector etc. There are a number of growing industrial parks in Uganda that are creating jobs and are in terrible need for employees who can speak Chinese language and understand the Chinese and Ugandan cultures. Therefore, students with a diploma in Chinese language will meet these job demands in a relatively short time, thus curbing down unemployment problems amongst the youth.
