The making of Confucius classroom started way back with the setup of Luyanzi College in 2010. Through collaborations with the various Chinese Companies and the Embassy for the People’s Republic of China in Uganda, the College trained Chinese language and culture to several corporate staff in various companies in Uganda.  Chinese Language and culture teaching Centre in Uganda was inaugurated at the College and this gave way to the promotion of Chinese language and culture.

Several developments were made and resulted into the signing of a memorandum of Understanding between the Confucius Institute at Makerere University and Luyanzi in 2016. Further collaboration was made with the Ministry of Education and Sports of Uganda Government, and National Curriculum Development Center (NCDC) to train 100 local teachers of Secondary schools in Chinese Language and Culture.

The Institute has a Confucius Classroom for teaching the Chinese Language and Culture, granted by Language Cooperation and Education Centre / Confucius Institute Headquarters, Beijing China, and it is also affiliated with Makerere University Confucius Institute.

We have so far had four cohorts (A, B, C and D) with a total 150 students who have graduated with a diploma in Chinese Language and Culture. to enhance this program, LIT has given full sponsorship programs to less privileged learners from less privileged areas of Karamoja and Busoga regions in Uganda.

With its strong excellence to advance the teaching of Chinese Language and Culture, LIT is a center for training trainer of trainers in Chinese Language and Culture under Makerere University Confucius Institute. Under this program we have successfully passed out 100 secondary school teachers under the Uganda-China government programme to teach in over 100 Secondary schools in Uganda.

Luyanzi Institute of Technology received consent from Confucius Institute of Headquarters for the new program to train 500 More Ugandan teachers for Chinese Language Education. This effort is geared at the establishment of Diplomatic relations between China and Uganda.
